References for Mrs. Malinda Russell

Miss Leslie’s Directions for Cookery, 1851, is a good reference for methods. At the beginning of the chapter on cakes, she describes creaming the butter and sugar together. https://www.gutenberg.org/files/60025/60025-h/60025-h.htm

Re a wineglass as a unit of measure; in Miss Leslie’s Directions for Cookery, 1851, “Four table-spoonfuls or half a jill, will fill a common wine glass.”
